In 1959, Monsieur and Madame Pierre ROMET acquired a small garage in the little village of GENNES SUR GLAIZE, in the south of the département of Mayenne. At the time, Monsieur Pierre ROMET was just starting his business, repairing all kinds of vehicles, including farm vehicles. Little by little, he began to build up a clientele, and they left the little garage in the centre of the village to a larger workshop they had built on the outskirts. The sale and repair of agricultural equipment became, from this moment on, the major part of their business.
In 1972, the company Pierre ROMET became a dealer for tractors from the Italian make SAME.
In 1979, the first branch was created in PEUTON, in the southwest of the Mayenne département (53), around 15 miles from Gennes sur Glaize.
1985 saw the creation of a second branch in CHERRE, in the northwest of the département of Maine et Loire (49), 15 miles from Gennes sur Glaizes.
In 1987, the company changed its name from "établissements ROMET" to "SARL ROMET".
In 1989, ROMET Ltd became a dealer for Massey-Ferguson tractors and equipment for the département of Mayenne (53).
In 1991 a third branch was created in VAUTORTE, in the north of the Mayenne département (53), 3 miles from ERNÉE. As for the head office, still located in Gennes sur Glaize, it underwent extensions to the offices, workshops and storerooms, and a farm equipment self-service zone was created.
Not far from the head office, a second-hand equipment warehouse was set up in Gennes sur Glaize, which since 1995 has sold spare parts and second-hand accessories for all makes of equipment.
In 1995, two of Mr and Mrs ROMET's children took over the business, in collaboration with Mrs ROMET: Jean-Pierre and Jean-Bernard ROMET had been involved in the family business since.
In 1996, a fourth branch was created in Juillé in the north of Sarthe (72), 20 miles north of LE MANS. This saw SARL ROMET become the exclusive dealer for the whole of the département of Sarthe.
March 2002 : Creation of a holding company: SARL Groupe Romet, including SAS ROMET 53 (head office, branches at Peuton and Vautorte), SAS ROMET 72 (head office at Noyen sur Sarthe and branch at Juillé) and SAS Romet 49 in CHÉRRÉ.
May 2002 : opening of a fifth establishment in Noyen sur Sarthe, in the south-west of the département of Sarthe (72), 12 miles from Sablé sur Sarthe. This establishment became the head office for the Sarthe.
Currently, 85 people are employed by the holding company and the 3 Romet firms, all services taken together: administration, distribution, sales, mechanics and specialist technicians.
In 2005, our website www.romet.fr was created, reflecting the fact that our clientele is becoming increasingly international and there is a huge volume and diversity of equipment on offer.
October 2005, opening of a new outlet in Vaiges in Mayenne, in order to better service customers who are far from our existing outlets in Mayenne.
October 2006, SAS ROMET 49 becomes a DEUTZ dealer for part of northern Maine and Loire in addition to other brands, namely SAME and MASSEY FERGUSON.
September 2007, opening of a 5th branch in Mayenne. Located in the north-east of Mayenne in Courcité, this outlet caters to customers in that region which was somewhat cut off from our other outlets.
September 2007, acquisition and takeover of Bricaud Motor Agricole with 2 outlets located in Varades and Abbaretz in Loire Atlantique. Those 2 outlets, which have their registered office at SAS ROMET 49, have been dealing in DEUTZ products for almost 50 years now. This acquisition extends the outreach of the Deutz brand over most of the Loire Atlantique region, and in order to preserve the long term standing of the Bricaud name in the DEUTZ brand, those two outlets have been given the trade name BRICAUD AGRI.
March 2007, revamping of our website www.romet.fr with redirection to a special Bricaud-Agri page.
To date, the total workforce of the holding and of the 3 Romet companies stands at 125 employees, for all departments: administration, distribution of spare parts, commercial machines and equipment, engineers and expert technicians.
